Sidney Street Café's Robert Zugmaier Nominated for Food & Wine's People's Best New Pastry Chef

St. Louis now has yet another representative of the culinary scene in the running for one of Food & Wine Magazine's People's Best New Chef awards.

In March, Cassy Vires of Maplewood's Home Wine Kitchen and Justin Haifley of Valley Park's The Tavern both were among 10 chefs in the running for People's Best New Chef: Midwest, with Carl Thorne-Thomsen of Prairie Village, Kan., emerging as the winner.

This month, the prominent national magazine is putting yet another vote to the people, this time for the best pastry chef.

A promotion on Food & Wine's website explains that: "After 25 years of naming America’s Best New Chefs, we’re ready for dessert: F&W editors are searching for the Best New Pastry Chefs in the country and you can help us crown The People’s Best New Pastry Chef!"

Three regions are represented - West, Central and East - and Sidney Street Cafe's Robert Zugmaier is among 17 pastry chefs in the Central division. Zugmaier attended L’École Culinaire and formerly worked at the former Colossus Restaurant in Lindenwood Park.

Food & Wine editors listed Zugmaier's Snicker Bar (pictured above) --  chocolate mousse, honey nougat, roasted peanuts, dulce de leche and chocolate bourbon sorbet -- as one of his quintessential desserts.

Voting is now open, and to cast your ballot, all you have to do is visit this link.

Food & Wine is announcing the winners on Tue., April 9. We'll keep you posted.

Congrats, and best of luck to chef Zugmaier!
